The Ghadar Movement, born out of the fields, factories, and passionate hearts of immigrants in California, first sparked on April 21, 1913, in Astoria. At Quito Farm near Holt Station (Camp 20, known as “Bhaian da Dera”), this spark flared into a blazing flame. The Stockton Gurdwara and the Yugantar Ashram in San Francisco also became central hubs of the revolutionaries’ activities. These were not just physical spaces, but sanctuaries of resistance where ideas of freedom were nurtured and spread across continents.

Yugantar Ashram (ਯੁਗਾਂਤਰ ਆਸ਼ਰਮ), San Francisco
Yugantar Ashram was the San Francisco headquarters of the Gadar Party from 1913 to 1917, serving as a base for the Indian independence movement to counter British rule.
The Gadari Babe were fearless revolutionaries who played a foundational role in the Ghadar Movement, a powerful early 20th-century campaign against British colonial rule in India. These senior leaders and freedom fighters—many of whom were Punjabi immigrants living in North America—dedicated their lives to awakening political consciousness among the Indian diaspora. Through speeches, writings, and organized resistance, they challenged imperial authority and inspired a global movement for India’s liberation. The term “Gadari Babe” is a mark of deep respect, symbolizing their unwavering commitment, sacrifices, and leadership in the fight for justice and national sovereignty.
